New Program from Sidebar Software 
Automates Task of Creating Legal Citation 

BOSTON, MA (February 1, 2000) - The development of a new software application that seamlessly integrates with a user’s word-processor to create accurate legal citation was announced today by Sidebar Software, Inc.  According to the company, the new software is the first of its kind in the legal technology market.  Called CiteIt!, the software enables legal professionals using Microsoft Word, or Corel WordPerfect to instantly create accurate legal citation conforming to The Bluebook’s formatting and style rules.

Greg Boesel, Sidebar Software’s president, reports that CiteIt! is the fastest and most accurate means of creating legal citation in documents and makes cutting and pasting cites from within a document obsolete.  CiteIt! provides pull-down menus listing all citation sources and deciding courts for a given jurisdiction and the program can instantly create a Table of Authorities of all citations used in a document.

"The flexibility of the software," Boesel said, "also enables users to create custom citation styles that conform to specific court rules or law review requirements, thereby saving significant time and effort."  The productivity of attorneys, paralegals, legal secretaries and law clerks will be increased, he noted, since CiteIt! automatically saves all entered citation information for later reference.  When the user wants to enter a citation into a document, the citation source is chosen and the appropriate citation form is selected from an on-screen display. CiteIt! then automatically inserts the fully formatted citation into the user’s word processing document.

CiteIt! also has several features designed to assist with the legal research and writing process. For example, a user can enter notes and keywords for each citation source which they then can organize and search. Relevant notes and keywords information can also be used to create what the company calls a Brief Outline™, a subject-matter outline of all of the user’s citation sources.

CiteIt! requires Windows 95, 98 or NT and the program works with Microsoft Word (97/2000/ XP/2003) and WordPerfect (9.0 & 10.0). The software runs on any IBM-compatible PC with a minimum 486 processor, and requires 20MB of hard disk space. 16MB of RAM is suggested.

CiteIt! is available in professional and student versions and retails for $229 and $55, respectively.
